An Casadóir: The Turner is a short documentary profiling award-winning woodturner Richard West of Studio West, based in Cleggan, County Galway. The film explores Richard’s creative journey, his approach to craftsmanship, and the impact that receiving a major craft award has had on his practice, confidence, and artistic direction.
Through the rhythm of the workshop and the transformation of raw timber into finished pieces, Richard reflects on the value of making, the importance of place, and the opportunities that lie ahead. Filmed in the lead-up to August Craft Month, An Casadóir: The Turner offers an intimate glimpse into the life of a contemporary Irish maker whose work is rooted in tradition while continually evolving through innovation and creativity.
